In this complicated world, what can you do about the environment when it comes to what you eat?

The latest Maurin Academy lecture series guest will be Dr. Jeremy Cowan, Horticulture specialist and homesteader, who will speak to us about the “Implications of Sustainable Agriculture at Home.” If you have been confused by the terms you see on foods and products at the grocery store, and wondered if how you eat or consume really impacts the environment, this talk will be worth your while. Dr. Cowan will discuss how the commercial “sustainable” food and product choices we are encouraged to make may not be as sustainable as we think. How can we make more sustainable choices, either in the grocery store or in the garden? Dr. Cowan will give us well-informed guidance.

Tuesday, Join us for a Roundtable on Why You Should Consider Doing Food Differently

The last session in our food preservation series, next week on March 26, is a roundtable (including but not limited to Ryan, Chris, Spencer, Emily, Laurie) on the reasons why you should consider taking the time to do food differently. We will be getting into the social, cultural, economic and political ramifications of our food system and our choices. Join us by supporting u on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/maurinacademy

Should Seeds Be Mere Commodities?

This is a segment from Laurie Johnson’s presentation in the first session of The Maurin Academy’s Fall 2022 short series on Agricultural Biotechnology and the Information Economy. She is guided by information from the first part of Jack Kloppenberg’s First the Seed. The short series with Laurie Johnson and Jakob Hanschu brings Kloppenberg’s scholarship to bear on McKenzie Wark’s The Hacker Manifesto, and vice versa.
